There’s nothing wrong with OpenID resolving i-names to http://xri.net/ URIs. Since there is a proxy there already, it should simply handle the rest.
There's been a lot of concern and misunderstanding about the impact of INames support on OpenID implementers. I've tried to make it plain that if you choose to use xri.net, or any other XRI proxy resolver (you can run your own, using openxri code), then you don't have a lot of extra work over using HTTP URIs to retrieve XRDS documents. In fact, I'm trying to document just how simple it should be over here.
Almost completely eye-to-eye. The OpenID 2.0 spec needs to be changed accordingly.
